Flex-Staff was founded in 1973 when Bill and Carol Hackbarth purchased a Rockford, Illinois franchise of the direct placement firm, Dunhill. (At that time, such placements were referred to as “permanent placements.”) In 1977 the Hackbarth’s purchased a second Dunhill franchise in Appleton, Wisconsin. In 1979 the Appleton office began offering temporary staffing in addition to direct placements. The Illinois franchise was sold in 1980, and by 1983 the primary focus of the company was on temporary staffing. In 1986 the relationship with Dunhill was discontinued, and the name Flex-Staff was adopted.
At the beginning of 2006, ownership of Flex-Staff was passed to Bill’s son, Mike Hackbarth, and Carol’s son, Steve Kamrowski, who have been with the company for 29 and 27 years respectively. Flex-Staff is headquartered in Appleton, and today has branch offices in Chilton, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Stevens Point, Eau Claire, and Green Bay. Every year Flex-Staff places thousands of employees in short and long-term temporary temp to hire and direct placement positions for client companies throughout Wisconsin.
