AMERICANS FOR FIREARMS RIGHTS issued the following announcement on June 29.
OCONTO - A 2-year-old Pound boy died Saturday night after being found in the Oconto River in the town of Stiles, according to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy was among a group of people camping on private property. The boy was noticed missing about 6:30 p.m. and the group searched for just over an hour before notifying the sheriff’s office, said Chief Deputy Darren Laskowski.
Deputies and members of the Oconto Falls Fire and Rescue Department, a DNR warden and the Oconto Falls Ambulance responded and joined the search.
Three boaters found the unconscious boy about 8:30 p.m. in the river about 1.25 miles from the campsite in the 6000 block of Konitzer Road, Laskowski said.
The boaters began performing CPR and called the sheriff’s office. They met up with first responders who took the boy to St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Hospital, where he died.
The Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating.
