Ripon College ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin for social mobility

Ripon College has been ranked the top school in Wisconsin for promoting social mobility by U.S. News & World Report. The ranking is included in the 2022-2023 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings, released today, Sept. 12.

Ripon ranks 38th among colleges nationally for social mobility. The ranking measures schools’ success at supporting their students from economically disadvantaged families and rates them based on the graduation rates of those students.

Ripon has been ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin for social mobility on the U.S. News listing several times in the past few years.

Building on Ripon’s past achievements on social mobility is a top priority for new president Victoria N. Folse. “As a first-gen student myself, social mobility is very important to me,” she says. “I see the opportunities that we’re giving first-gen students, some of whom are Pell eligible or who have significant financial barriers to attending a school like Ripon.

“I also see social mobility as more than changing one’s socioeconomic status. I see the relevance for all of our students as we ask them to be fully immersed in what’s happening in society, both in the U.S. and abroad. Individuals, even who had privilege or had different life experiences, understand their role in a global society and understand the impact of extending their worldview to think about others and to be fully immersed in communities in which they’ll live after graduation.”
