Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman’s bipartisan legislation to honor the memory of Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor J. Casper took a significant step forward. The bill, which seeks to designate the U.S. Post Office located on Fremont Street in Kiel as the "Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building," has successfully passed through the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The next hurdle for this bill is a vote on the House floor.

In September 2023, Congressman Grothman led the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation in introducing this bill, which includes Representatives Tom Tiffany, Scott Fitzgerald, Derrick Van Orden, Gwen Moore, Bryan Steil, Mike Gallagher, and Mark Pocan.

Speaking about the bill's progress, Congressman Grothman expressed the importance of honoring Trooper Casper's life and service, stating, "Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history. Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe."

Grothman also emphasized the significance of Trooper Casper's sacrifice in recognizing the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers. He urged House leadership to take up this bipartisan bill to ensure that Trooper Casper's memory is forever remembered and celebrated.

Trooper Trevor J. Casper's story is one of bravery and commitment to public service. On March 24, 2015, Casper tragically became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin history. While on his first solo assignment, he was shot and killed in Fond du Lac while attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect.

Before his untimely death, Casper fulfilled his dream of becoming a police officer. He graduated from the State Patrol Academy and was stationed at the State Trooper Base in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Born on May 21, 1993, Casper was an active member of the Kiel community, participating in wrestling, soccer, and coaching youth sports. He graduated from Kiel High School in 2011 and pursued a degree in Criminal Justice at Lakeshore Technical College, where he also served as the President of the student government.

The passing of this bill not only serves as a tribute to Trooper Casper and his selfless dedication to protecting his community but also as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers every day. It is a call to honor and support those who continue to serve and protect the great state of Wisconsin.

With the bill now moving to the House floor for a vote, it is expected that the bipartisan support garnered by Congressman Grothman's efforts will carry the bill forward. The renaming of the post office will stand as a permanent reminder of Trooper Trevor J. Casper's heroism and his ultimate sacrifice.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, who represents Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District, has been serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for his fifth term.
