Bipartisan bill passes House to rename post office after fallen trooper

Congressman Glenn Grothman’s (WI-06) bipartisan legislation to designate the U.S. Post Office located on Fremont Street in Kiel as the “Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building” has passed through the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill now awaits consideration in the U.S. Senate.

Introduced in September 2023, Grothman led the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation on this bill, which includes Representatives Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Gwen Moore (WI-04), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Mike Gallagher (WI-08), and Mark Pocan (WI-02).

“Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history,” said Grothman. “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe."

“Trooper Casper’s sacrifice should remind us all of the tremendous debt of gratitude we owe to our law enforcement officers. Let us remember Trooper Casper’s heroism and his dedication to duty, and let us honor his memory by supporting those who continue to serve and protect our great state of Wisconsin.”

"I am thrilled that this bill has passed the House. Now, I urge Senate leadership to swiftly take up this bipartisan legislation, ensuring that we honor and commemorate the remarkable life and legacy of Trooper Trevor Casper. I look forward to the day we can see Trooper Trevor Casper’s name on the post office.”

On March 24, 2015, Trevor J. Casper became the youngest police officer killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin history while attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect during his first solo assignment.

Months before his death, Trevor graduated from the State Patrol Academy and was stationed at the State Trooper Base in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Born on May 21, 1993, Trevor was active in wrestling, soccer, and coaching youth sports within his community. After graduating from Kiel High School with the class of 2011, he attended Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice in 2014. He was also involved with LTC's Color Guard and served as President of its student government.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his fifth term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District.
