FOIA Request Sent to City of Horicon Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Horicon, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by us at Fond Du Lac Times, sought details about new voter registrations that took place on November 5, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe in the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. Access to public records such as these is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.

The specific request was for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. We requested this information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and expressed a preference for receiving the data in an electronic format.

In line with our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We believe that access to such information should not be hindered by financial constraints as it is essential for promoting transparency and holding public institutions accountable.

We await a response from the City of Horicon regarding this request. As always, we remain committed to keeping our readers informed about local governmental affairs and will continue striving for transparency and accountability in all public matters.
