Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) has issued a statement in response to a study conducted by The Network Contagion Research Institute and Rutgers University Social Perception Lab. The study suggests that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) materials might lead to various negative outcomes, such as psychological harm, increased hostility, and stronger alignment with extreme authoritarian rhetoric.

"As Congress works to finalize appropriations for next year, a new study confirms what I and many have long believed to be the real purpose of DEI. According to research from The Network Contagion Research Institute and Rutgers University, DEI programs are fostering division and divisiveness, not unity. This is also discussed in Christopher Rufo’s book, America's Cultural Revolution,” said Congressman Grothman. "The study reveals that DEI initiatives often lead to increased costs and a decline in quality when DEI is prioritized over merit."

Grothman further stated his belief that "at their core, DEI programs are rooted in divisive practices," arguing against maintaining DEI provisions in the current negotiations of Appropriations bills in Congress. He called on media members to highlight this issue for public transparency.

He noted that some companies are beginning to reconsider their stance on DEI policies: “Interestingly, some companies are beginning to back away from DEI policies. In fact, just today, Walmart announced a rollback of its DEI policies.”

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman represents Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently serving his fifth term.
