On November 25th, a bipartisan bill introduced by Congressman Glenn Grothman (WI-06) was signed into law by President Joe Biden. The legislation designates the U.S. Post Office on Fremont Street in Kiel as the "Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building."

The bill, introduced in September 2023, had the support of the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation. This includes Representatives Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Gwen Moore (WI-04), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Mike Gallagher (WI-08), and Mark Pocan (WI-02).

Details regarding the date for the post office renaming ceremony are yet to be announced.

“Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history,” said Grothman. “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe."

Grothman further stated, “Trooper Casper’s sacrifice should remind us all of the tremendous debt of gratitude we owe to our law enforcement officers. Let us remember Trooper Casper’s heroism and his dedication to duty, and let us honor his memory by supporting those who continue to serve and protect our great state of Wisconsin."

"I am glad that this bill has been signed into law by the President and look forward to honoring Trooper Trevor Casper for his service in Kiel.”

Trevor J. Casper became the youngest police officer killed in action in Wisconsin's history on March 24, 2015. He died while attempting to apprehend a suspect involved in a bank robbery and murder during his first solo assignment.

Casper graduated from the State Patrol Academy months before his death and was stationed at Fond du Lac's State Trooper Base. Born on May 21, 1993, he was an active member of Kiel's community through sports and coaching youth activities. After graduating from Kiel High School in 2011, he attended Lakeshore Technical College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice in 2014.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his fifth term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District.
