Congressman Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District expressed his support for President Trump's recent executive order. The order allows military servicemembers, who were discharged during the Biden Administration for not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, to be reinstated with their former rank and receive full back pay and benefits.
"In his first week back in office, President Trump has kept his promises and delivered dozens of policy wins," said Grothman. He commended the President for offering reinstatement to those servicemembers he believes were wrongfully discharged. Grothman criticized the discharges as politically motivated, especially during a time when military recruitment goals were unmet by tens of thousands.
Grothman emphasized that reinstating these troops was a long-standing goal of his. He pointed out that there were experts on both sides of the vaccination issue and questioned President Biden's decision to discharge servicemembers who chose not to get vaccinated after reviewing medical information available at the time. He noted that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nominated by Biden for Health and Human Services, was also skeptical about the vaccines.
"I don’t believe it is right to force someone to do something they oppose in order to keep their job," Grothman stated, criticizing such mandates in both military and private sectors. He expressed hope that businesses would follow Trump's example and reinstate employees terminated over vaccine refusal.
