Saint Agnes Hospital issued the following announcement on Nov. 12
With all the preparation the holidays can require of parents, planning a few special activities to enjoy as a family may not be at the top of your list. The good news is, there are plenty of low-stress options that can turn a winter afternoon or open evening into an opportunity to make lasting family memories.
Take a trip to the rink
For a fun family outing, spend a few hours at an ice-skating rink. Even toddlers will love holding hands and gliding on the ice to the sound of holiday classics. Choose an outdoor rink for a festive feel and enjoy some fresh air and great exercise with hot cocoa to follow!
Make holiday ornaments
All it takes is a trip to the craft store for some clear ornaments and paints to create one-of-kind decorations that you may want to showcase on the holiday tree for years to come. Make some extras to share with the grandparents, too.
See the lights
Although there are many outstanding options for viewing professional holiday light shows, some of the most entertaining are those found in local neighborhoods. Use social media to locate some popular spots or just hop in the car with the kids for a tour of the dazzling displays near you.
Host a movie marathon
Bring the whole gang together with a selection of family favorites and a tub of popcorn. Ask for suggestions in advance and choose a few that everyone can enjoy. Include a “family short” between each feature, such as video from a family wedding or vacation, and relive some special moments together.
Step out into nature
A sunny winter day is ideal for a visit to a local or state park trail for a brisk walk through the woods. The leafless trees offer a unique view of the landscape and an opportunity to spot some furry friends that may remain hidden during other times of the year.
What will bring your family together this holiday season? Whether it’s an old favorite like baking cookies or your first family trip to an outdoor rink, the holidays offer a special opportunity to spend extra time with those who matter most. You may even create some new family traditions.
