Nominations are officially open for Downtown Businesses of the Year. Each year, two businesses are selected by the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership (DFP) based on nominations from the public. The first category, the “Legacy” Award, recognizes businesses who have been in the downtown for 50 years or more. There are currently 20 businesses that are eligible for this award. The second category recognizes the best new business to open in downtown during the last year. Downtown Fond du Lac has been able to welcome 32 new businesses. The new businesses are Aesthete Nails (82 N. Main), Anahata Therapeutic Massage (82 ½ N. Main, Suite 109), Armon Empire Professional Services (21 N. Portland, Suite 2C), Beauty Republic (1 N. Main), Benson & Houle (20 N. Main), Blue Culture Tees (82 S. Macy), Caldera A/C & Heating (231 S. Main), Carpe Diem Massage (131 S. Main, Suite M08), Craft City Bottleshop & Taproom (103 S. Main), Edward Jones – Matt & Maggie Moses (201 S. Marr), Fast Taco (101 N. Main), Fondy Axe Company (25 A N. Main), Greenspace Coworking (21 N. Portland, Suite 2A), H & H Hobby (79 S. Main), Hair Habitat (82 N. Main), Hang 10 Poke (74 S. Main, Suite 104), Lighthouse Wine Bar & Bistro (213 S. Main), Nails by Kyra Mae (82 ½ N. Main, Suite 111), Neva Newhouse Massage Therapy (21 N. Portland, Suite 2C), New Directions Chiropractic (21 N. Portland, Suite 2C), Opal Studios (104 S. Main), P.S. Beauty Lounge (59 N. Main), OG Beauty (82 ½ N. Main, Suite 106), Prescedent Architecture (195 N. Main), Rae of Light Dance Studio (21 N. Portland, Suite 2D), Sound Mind Mental Health Services (131 S. Main, Suite M09), SRae.esthetics (82 ½ N. Main, Suite 108), The Main Street Depot (8 N. Main), The Twisted Warrior (15 N. Main, Suite 1), Total Body Massage (82 ½ N. Main), and Vendetta Comics (191 N. Main). The public is encouraged to submit nominations for the Downtown Legacy Award and the Best New Business Award including personal stories of how businesses have contributed to the Fond du Lac community, their innovations, and challenges they have overcome. Nominations are due by January 31, 2023 and may be submitted at: www.downtownfdl.com.

The Downtown Legacy Award was created in 2015 and has been awarded to Kitz & Pfeil True Value (2015), Edith’s Bridal (2016), U.S. Bank (2017), the Fond du Lac Family YMCA (2018), the Fond du Lac Public Library (2019), Wood’s Floral & Gifts (2020) and most recently Joe’s Fox Hut (2021).

The New Business Award has been awarded in previous years to Mix It Up Bakery (2015), Annie’s Fountain City Café (2016), Atlas Gaming (2017), Brick House (2018), Hair Lounge & HempWorks as dual winners (2019), Lunar and Lake Book Market (2020), and The Cellar District (2021). Judges from the DFP Organization Committee will consider, contribution to community and industry, business performance, innovative practices, and challenges overcome. Winners will be determined based on the content and quality of the completed nominations. Anyone may nominate a business. Self-nominations are encouraged. All nominations will be considered when judging, so businesses may be nominated by more than one person. Information in the nomination form will be used for presentations and news releases related to the awards. Any confidential financial information will not be used.
