Watertown Regional Medical Center (WRMC) has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award by Healthgrades. This marks the third year in a row that the hospital has received this recognition. Healthgrades connects patients with healthcare providers and awards hospitals that excel in patient care and safety.

Patricia Gedemer, Chief Nursing Officer at WRMC, stated, “We are thrilled to once again earn this elite honor from Healthgrades that recognizes our hospital’s steadfast commitment to providing the highest quality care in the safest environment.” She emphasized the hospital's focus on patient safety and the culture that the team has built around it.

The award honors hospitals that demonstrate excellence in care while preventing serious safety events. This year, 442 hospitals across 40 states were recognized, representing the top 10% of hospitals nationally for patient safety.

To qualify for the award, hospitals must meet specific clinical quality thresholds, ensure that no foreign object is left behind during procedures, and have data on most of the core Patient Safety Indicators. Healthgrades' analysis showed that hospitals like WRMC have significantly lower rates of specific adverse events than non-recipient hospitals.

Debra Gradick, MD FACEP, from Healthgrades, remarked, “As a 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient, Watertown Regional Medical Center consistently puts the well-being of their patients and staff at the forefront, setting a high standard for patient safety nationwide.”

The recognition follows WRMC's recent accolades, including the Healthgrades’ Joint Replacement Excellence Award in February and recognition as a top-performing rural hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health in 2024.

About WRMC, it has been serving Dodge and Jefferson counties with quality healthcare for over a century, offering a wide range of services from primary care to specialized treatments. Healthgrades, part of RVO Health, is a platform helping millions find and schedule appointments with healthcare providers.
