Wisconsin Rep. Glenn Grothman utilized platform X, previously recognized as Twitter, to voice his criticism regarding the Biden Administration's decision to discontinue funding for hunting or archery classes within schools. Grothman further advocated for an increase in options for Wisconsin students, emphasizing the importance of expanding choices rather than eliminating them.
"U.S. Department of Education's decision to cut funding for schools offering hunter and archery classes works against the interests of aspiring young outdoorsmen and undermines the rights of law-abiding Wisconsinites," Grothman said. "WI students deserve more options, not less. "
“President Biden’s push to outlaw hunter and archery programs deprives Wisconsin students of valuable hunting lessons that make our children more comfortable outdoors,” Grothman said in a press release. “The federal government has no place in our schools. The decision to weaponize federal funds to target schools offering this training is a gross abuse of power that goes against the best interest of America’s next generation."
The funding for hunting and archery classes in schools throughout the United States has been halted following the approval of the "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" (BSCA) last year. The bill is intended to "promote safer, more inclusive, and positive school environments for all students, educators, and school staff" and focuses on the aspects of bullying, violence, and an overall safer space within schools, according to the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.
As a consequence of the passage of the bill, funding for those specific types of programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which serves as the main source of federal aid for elementary and secondary education nationwide, will be halted. This change is expected to impact a significant number of students enrolled in these programs, potentially affecting millions, according to Fox News.
The National Archery in the Schools Program, with a membership of over 1 million students from thousands of schools across 49 states, who are participating in archery courses, will be impacted, as well as many other students enrolled in similar programs. The National Shooting Sports Foundation claims that the Education Department is openly undermining the Second Amendment, according to Fox News.
"The anti-gun hysteria in the Biden Administration has no business impeding on the lives of aspiring young outdoorsmen and undermining the rights of law-abiding Wisconsinites," Grothman said. "As a proud defender of the Second Amendment, my resolution stands in opposition to this blatant federal overreach.”
