Using platform X, previously known as Twitter, Wisconsin Rep. and Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs, Glenn Grothman openly expressed criticism towards the Biden Administration for the persisting issues at the border. Grothman shared an article in his post discussing the issue of Arizona wall gates being left open, highlighting concerns regarding smugglers and drug trafficking.
"Encouraging illegal immigration and simultaneously leaving CBP shorthanded is a recipe for disaster. Gaps in the wall make it even easier to get into the U.S. illegally," Grothman said. "Lawlessness leads to more drug trafficking, human smuggling, & profits for Cartels."
Last week, news emerged that in the Tucson, Arizona sector, which is already grappling with the influx of migrants, U.S. authorities have decided to keep 114 large gates welded open along the Arizona border. This decision aims to facilitate the unrestricted flow of water during the annual monsoon season. However, the decision has enabled migrants to enter the country with relative ease, numbering in the thousands, according to the New York Post.
The most significant surge in unauthorized border crossings took place within the Tucson sector, where Border Patrol reported a record-breaking number of almost 40,000 apprehensions during the month of July. The increase in border crossings along the Arizona border is allegedly attributed to the actions of smugglers, as stated by an official from Customs and Border Protection, according to CBS News.
In Tucson, Arizona, the daily surge of migrants has experienced a dramatic rise, with an astounding 134% increase compared to the previous month. The towns of Lukeville and Ajo in Arizona are similarly grappling with the task of accommodating migrants, resulting in a scenario where numerous individuals are forced to remain outdoors due to overcrowded facilities. This predicament is particularly dire considering the recent temperatures exceeding 110 degrees, according to CBS News.
"Illegal border crossings were up 33% in July, with 40,000 illegal encounters in the Tucson sector alone," said Arizona Rep. David Schweikert on platform X. "We need to utilize the resources and tools at our disposal to secure our southern border. It's clear that Biden's open border policies aren't working."
